WHEREAS, the Michigan Constitution, Article IV, Section 51 states, "The public health and general welfare of the people of the state are hereby declared to be matters of primary public concern;" and,
WHEREAS, environmental health professionals are dedicated to the improvement of public health through management of the environment and preventative measures; their efforts contribute to the continued improvement and protection of the public's general welfare; and,
WHEREAS, Michigan's environmental health professionals apply their science-based expertise to known and potential problems, which often results in avoiding health hazards and reducing total health care costs; and,
WHEREAS, during this week, we join with the Michigan Environmental Health Association to encourage citizens throughout the state to learn more about environmental health professionals and to recognize the many contributions of these public servants; and,
WHEREAS, throughout the years, the Michigan Environmental Health Association has held an annual conference and will this year hold its 71st Annual Education Conference from March 17-20, 2015;
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Rick Snyder, governor of Michigan, do hereby proclaim March 15 through March 21, 2015 as Environmental Health Week in Michigan.
