August 2015: Gastroparesis Awareness Month

WHEREAS, Gastroparesis is a chronic illness that affects more than 5 million people in the United States of America; and,

WHEREAS, Gastroparesis is "paralysis of the stomach" which causes sometimes debilitating pain, nausea, vomiting, early satiety, and can lead to serious complications such as malnourishment, dehydration, extreme weight loss, and overwhelming fatigue; and,

WHEREAS, No known cure, and few effective treatment options or medications for gastroparesis exist; and, 

WHEREAS, People with gastroparesis would benefit from more research, improved medications, additional treatment options, better support, and hope for the future; and,

WHEREAS, Awareness regarding the devastating effects of this disorder is for the good of the public health;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, Rick Snyder, governor of Michigan, do hereby proclaim August, 2015 as Gastroparesis Awareness Month in Michigan.
