WHEREAS, advancing race relations remains a top priority on our national agenda; and,
WHEREAS, sport has proven to be an effective catalyst for social change throughout our nation’s history and the sports community is in a leading position to promote understanding, respect and equality; and,
WHEREAS, the nonprofit organization Ross Initiative in Sports for Equality (RISE) aims to harness the unifying power of sport to advance race relations and drive social progress; and,
WHEREAS, RISE calls all members of the sports community to stand up against racial discrimination, including major leagues, organizations, sports professionals, athletes, media networks, experts and educators;
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Rick Snyder, governor of Michigan, do hereby proclaim October 17, 2015 as Rise to Win Day.
