WHEREAS, paralegals, also known as legal assistants, support lawyers and other legal professionals in various organizations, including law firms, corporate legal departments and government agencies; and,
WHEREAS, paralegals and legal assistants are qualified through formal education, training or work experience to perform legal work requiring knowledge of the legal system and substantive and procedural law; and,
WHEREAS, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics employment of paralegals and legal assistants is expected to grow 17 percent between 2012 and 2022, faster than the average for all occupations; and,
WHEREAS, on this day, we join with the State Bar of Michigan to encourage Michiganders to learn more about the paralegal and legal assistant profession, and we recognize the many contributions made by these legal professionals in our great state and nation;
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Rick Snyder, governor of Michigan, do hereby proclaim May 6, 2016 as Paralegal and Legal Assistant Day in Michigan.
