WHEREAS, home to more freshwater shoreline and public golf courses than any other state, Michigan’s hotels, resorts and meeting and event venues offer a variety of services and beautiful landscapes for corporate, association and social events or meetings; and,
WHEREAS, nearly 100 Michigan hotels, resorts and other venues have been accredited by the Green Lodging Michigan program, making them leaders in energy conservation, air quality and reduced water consumption and waste; and,
WHEREAS, Michigan has a rich and historic heritage of hospitality leadership within the state’s numerous hotels, resorts and meeting venues that provide residents, students, as well as national and international visitors new and exciting learning opportunities; and,
WHEREAS, on this day, we encourage residents and visitors of Michigan to learn more about the opportunities within the state’s meetings, events and hospitality industries. We honor those who serve in these critically important industries since their efforts contribute to Michigan’s continued economic growth and success;
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Rick Snyder, governor of Michigan, do hereby proclaim September 28, 2016 as Michigan Event Industry Day.
