WHEREAS, home to 50 downhill ski areas, 6,500 miles of snowmobile trails and 3,000 miles of cross country skiing trails, Michigan winters offer a wide variety of outdoor recreational activities; and,
WHEREAS, Michigan is the birthplace of both organized skiing and snowboarding in the U.S. and ranks second in the nation for number of ski areas; and,
WHEREAS, the U.S. National Ski & Snowboard Hall of Fame and Museum is located in Michigan’s beautiful Upper Peninsula; and,
WHEREAS, Michigan has a rich outdoor recreation heritage and each year, residents and visitors continue to enjoy winter tourism throughout Michigan; and,
WHEREAS, during this month, we encourage everyone to learn more about and take advantage of the many snow sports Pure Michigan has to offer;
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Rick Snyder, governor of Michigan, do hereby proclaim January 2017 as Discover Michigan Snow Sports Month.
