WHEREAS, it is during the month of March that we make it a point to celebrate and recognize the importance of reading, a skill and hobby that is enjoyed by people of all ages and all walks of life; and,
WHEREAS, reading to children in the early years of their lives stimulates their social and intellectual development and reinforces the importance of reading and learning for success; and,
WHEREAS, Michigan's future depends on a workforce with strong literacy skills. The ability to read is vital, and children should practice and improve this skill throughout their education;
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Rick Snyder, governor of Michigan, do hereby proclaim March 2017 as Reading Month in Michigan.
