WHEREAS, profound economic and technological changes in our state and country have placed new responsibilities on our adult educational system; and,
WHEREAS, adult education is an investment in the people and the future of our great state, providing preventative strategies to lower unemployment, illiteracy levels and government assistance costs; and,
WHEREAS, adult education offers lifelong learning opportunities that improve basic skills such as reading, writing and mathematics; and,
WHEREAS, during this week, we recognize the importance of adult education in Michigan, as it helps prepare our residents for jobs and career advancements, giving new hope for economic independence and ultimately improving the quality of life for Michigan families;
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Rick Snyder, Governor of Michigan, do hereby proclaim March 26-31, 2017 as Adult Education Week in Michigan.
