WHEREAS, the state of Michigan recognizes the importance of physical fitness and sports in fostering active and healthy habits for its residents; and,
WHEREAS, participation in sports develops our mental alertness, enthusiasm and energy, and improves our sense of self-esteem and camaraderie; and,
WHEREAS, the Jewish Sports Heritage Association honors Jewish sports figures who have distinguished themselves in the field of sports, and serves as a reminder of the court and playing field heroes who emerged as athletic leaders; and,
WHEREAS, during this month, we raise awareness of the Jewish Sports Heritage Association and recognize the hall-of-famers who are from or have spent part of their careers in the Great Lakes State;
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Rick Snyder, governor of Michigan, do hereby proclaim April 2017 as Jewish Sports Heritage Month in Michigan.
