WHEREAS, on May 10, 2017 thousands of students all across Michigan will get physically active for 60 minutes simultaneously. These students are participating in a nation-wide celebration of health and active living; and,
WHEREAS, May is National Physical Fitness and Sports Month, including National Bike to Work Week and Green Commute Week, both held May 15-21. In conjunction with these designations, schools across Michigan work to encourage and educate students to live active lives; and,
WHEREAS, this celebration of active living emphasizes the importance of physical activity, impacting thousands of elementary and middle school students throughout Michigan; and,
WHEREAS, ACES Day is supported by Farm Bureau Insurance and the Michigan Fitness Foundation and also finds additional support in many nonprofits and other organizations, including the United Dairy Institute of Michigan and Project Healthy Schools;
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Rick Snyder, governor of Michigan, do hereby proclaim May 10, 2017 as All Children Exercise Simultaneously (ACES) Day in Michigan.
