WHEREAS, Grand Haven, Michigan is the first “Coast Guard City USA,” the one and only; and,
WHEREAS, Michigan is surrounded by the Great Lakes with Coast Guard presence, and it has the longest shore lines in the country next to Alaska; and,
WHEREAS, no branch of service has been in the business of saving lives and protecting our coasts longer than the United States Coast Guard. It is indispensable to America's future; and,
WHEREAS, the Grand Haven Coast Guard Festival celebrates the United States Coast Guard's Aviation Centennial. We urge all those in Michigan to salute our Coast Guard;
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Rick Snyder, governor of Michigan, do hereby proclaim July 28-August 6, 2017 as Coast Guard Festival Week in Michigan.
