WHEREAS, football is one of the most popular spectator sports in Michigan, and the largest participation sport at the high school and collegiate levels.
WHEREAS, on any given Fall weekend, approximately 700 games are played by 1,400 teams, and attended by as many as half a million fans; and,
WHEREAS, professional football has a proud tradition in our state, featuring a long-standing Thanksgiving Day game hosted by the Detroit Lions; and,
WHEREAS, the closing days of November are annually highlighted by the Motor City's holiday game, spectacular collegiate rivalry games, and three days of contests to determine the top prep gridiron teams; and,
WHEREAS, during this week we acknowledge the positive role football plays in schools and communities across the state;
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Rick Snyder, governor of Michigan, do hereby proclaim November 18-26, 2017 as Football Week in Michigan.
