WHEREAS, the constantly rising costs of higher education have out-paced inflation and the growth of family income, which make it more difficult for our residents to ensure their children’s access to a college education; and,
WHEREAS, student loan debt leaves college graduates with the burden of paying for their college education long after they have completed it; and,
WHEREAS, in addition to allowing students to minimize loan debt, students who receive scholarships and grants are more likely to earn a bachelor’s degree than otherwise similar students; and,
WHEREAS, the State of Michigan strives to assist students and families in identifying and accessing available resources to support college education; and,
WHEREAS, the state of Michigan’s MI Student Aid, Michigan’s go-to resource for financial aid, provides a database of Michigan place-based scholarships, as well as scholarship application resources, and connects students to Michigan college and national scholarship opportunities;
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Rick Snyder, Governor of Michigan, do hereby proclaim November 2017 as Scholarship Month in Michigan.
