WHEREAS, nearly one million residents throughout the state of Michigan provide care and support to family members who are ill or have a disability; and,
WHEREAS, more and more, family caregivers are taking on the responsibility of providing care to another family member or friend with a long-term chronic or disabling condition; and,
WHEREAS, these dedicated family caregivers play a critically-important role in providing care and support to some of Michigan’s most vulnerable residents; and,
WHEREAS, since 1997, Family Caregiver Month has been recognized during the month of November to honor family caregivers nationwide; and,
WHEREAS, during this month, we join with the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services and the Aging and Adult Services Agency to support and thank family caregivers who give so much of themselves to ensure the health and well-being of those they care for;
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Rick Snyder, governor of Michigan, do hereby proclaim November 2018 as Family Caregiver Month in Michigan.
