Governor Makes Appointments to the Corn Marketing Program of Michigan

Governor Jennifer M. Granholm today announced the re-appointments of Jay Drozd and William Lyndon Uphaus as committee members of the Corn Marketing Program of Michigan.  Granholm also announced the appointment of Clark F. Gerstacker as a committee member.

“These three highly qualified individuals will continue to focus the program on research that will help to advance one of the state’s most valued crops,” Granholm said.  “I know the Corn Marketing Program of Michigan will continue to make strides in promoting and building the corn industry and continue to be a strong economic resource for Michigan.”

Uphaus currently serves as treasurer of the committee and will serve a term that expires April 30, 2006.  Drozd and Gerstacker will also serve a term expiring in April 2006.

The purpose of the Corn Marketing Program of Michigan is to develop programs to enhance the economic position of the corn industry in Michigan through research, education, promotion, and market development.  The committee focuses heavily on research and developing new uses for corn to develop new products for producers in Michigan.

Michigan produces about 240 million bushels of corn per year on a little over two million acres.
