LANSING, Mich. - Gov. Rick Snyder has appointed John Burk, of Bay City, and reappointed Randall Poll, of Hamilton, to the Michigan Corn Marketing Committee.
In partnership with the program director, the nine-member committee prepares and oversees the marketing program budget and makes amendment recommendations to the marketing program, which promotes the advancement of Michigan's corn industry.
"Corn is one of Michigan's top commodities and is a vital part of our state's vibrant agriculture industry," said Snyder. "John and Randall are great selections for this committee and I am confident their service will effectively support the marketing program."
Appointed:
Burk brings 25 years of farming experience and is owner of Burk Farms, where he farms 1,600 acres, and raises turkeys, chickens and pigs. Previously, he worked as an agricultural and natural resources educator at Michigan State University. Burk holds a bachelor's degree in agriculture technology and systems management and a master's degree in crop and soil sciences, both from Michigan State University. He will represent District 8 and replaces Clark Gerstacker.
Reappointed:
Poll is president of Poll Farms, where he farms more than 4,000 acres of crops. He is a 4-H leader, Michigan Department of Environmental Quality certified farm operator and serves on the Heath Township Board of Review. Poll will continue to represent District 1.
Appointees will serve three-year terms that expire March 5, 2015, and their appointments are subject to the advice and consent of the Senate.
