Gov. Rick Snyder makes appointment to Michigan Early Stage Venture Investment Corporation Board of Directors

LANSING, Mich. – Gov. Rick Snyder today announced the appointment of Jeb Burns of Okemos to the Early Stage Venture Investment Corporation Board of Directors.

Established in 2003, the seven-member board encourages a healthy economic climate by fostering job creation, retention and expansion through the promotion of investment in venture capital businesses, specializing in early stage and seed investments.

“This board is key in maintaining and enhancing Michigan’s entrepreneurial market and keeping Michigan a leader in innovation,” Snyder said. “I thank Jeb for joining and his commitment to this board.”

Burns is the Chief Investment Officer for the Municipal Employees’ Retirement System of Michigan (MERS). Prior to joining MERS in 2002, he held positions in public policy, communications, legislative affairs and budget with the state of Michigan. He holds a bachelor’s degree in history from Western Michigan University and a master’s degree in public administration with a concentration in public policy from Wayne State University. He will represent the general public and replace Thomas Nastas.

Burns will serve a three-year term expiring June 13, 2021. His appointment is subject to the advice and consent of the Senate.
