The Youth Summit culminated a series of assemblies held at each school around the Michigan Steps Up motto "Move More, Eat Better, Don't Smoke." Each SAT created poems, skits, speeches, and exercise routines to drive home the message to their entire school about nutrition, physical activity and tobacco prevention. Part of the assembly involved the student body signing a pledge promising to get more active, eat more fruits and vegetables and not smoke. |

The youth leadership team also made a presentation during the event to make the other SATs aware of a letter writing campaign for First Lady Michelle Obama. The letter states in part; On behalf of the Generation With Promise Student Action Teams we would like to support your "Let's Move" campaign and share recommendations for your consideration. We are working in our schools and communities to "end childhood obesity within a generation" by moving more, eating better and not smoking… Each student in attendance at the Youth Summit signed a copy of the letter that will be sent to the White House as part of Mrs. Obama's anti-obesity initiative. |
