Home visiting programs are an important part of state early childhood systems. Home visiting program professionals offer guidance and support to at-risk expectant and new parents and participation in home visiting programs has been shown to reduce the rate of child abuse and neglect, improve birth outcomes, and improve school readiness. In Michigan, the award of the Maternal, Infant, and Early Childhood system has spearheaded improvements and enhancements in the home visiting system. Michigan is building on national and state policy, as well as emerging high-quality research in the field of home visiting to ensure implementation of a high-quality, effective, home visiting system.
