February 12, 2019 – The Dept. of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs (LARA) issued an order of summary suspension and notice of intent to revoke the license of a Kent County licensee – James Kaman (2022 Collingwood Avenue, Wyoming) – in order to protect the health, welfare, and safety of vulnerable adults.
LARA’s actions resulted from a February 5, 2019, complaint investigation conducted at the adult foster care small group home. The investigation found that the licensee and its direct staff provided inadequate care and supervision and failed to meet the needs of residents.
Specifically, the licensee failed to ensure that direct care staff:
The summary suspension order prohibits Kaman from operating an adult foster care small group home at 2022 Collingwood Avenue, Wyoming, Michigan, or at any other address or location. Accordingly, he may not accept physically handicapped, developmentally disabled, mentally ill or aged adults for care after that date and time. The order also requires the licensee to inform guardians of adults in his care that the license has been suspended and that he can no longer provide adult foster care services.
A licensee has the right to appeal this suspension. This case will be forwarded to the Michigan Administrative Hearing System (MAHS) for a hearing date.
