August 17, 2018 - The Michigan Green Industry Association (MGIA) and Michigan Occupational Safety and Health Administration (MIOSHA) renewed an alliance agreement formalizing a mutual commitment to workplace safety and health. The MIOSHA program is a part of the Michigan Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs (LARA).
“This collaborative relationship has been very beneficial to protecting Michigan workers within the landscaping industry,” said MIOSHA Director Bart Pickelman. “MIOSHA looks forward to continuing its alliance with MGIA to share information and best practices that will further foster workplace safety.”
Forming its first MIOSHA alliance in 2015, this is MGIA’s first alliance renewal to raise awareness of MIOSHA’s rulemaking and enforcement initiatives, provide training and education, and enhance outreach and communication related to worker protection, particularly within the landscaping industry. MGIA members will also gain a greater understanding of the rights of workers and the responsibilities of employers under the Michigan Occupational Safety and Health Act (MIOSH Act). The alliance will remain in effect for three years from the signing date.
“We are proud to sign this alliance agreement with MIOSHA,” said MGIA Executive Director Diane Banks. “We look forward to continuing our proactive partnership by advancing the workplace safety and health of our members.”
MIOSHA alliances enable organizations committed to workplace safety and health to collaborate with MIOSHA to prevent workplace injuries and illnesses. Alliances are open to all groups, including trade or professional associations, businesses, labor organizations, educational institutions, and government agencies.
There are many benefits to participating in an alliance with MIOSHA, including:
- Building trusting, cooperative relationships.
- Networking with others committed to workplace safety and health.
- Exchanging information about best practices.
- Leveraging resources to maximize worker safety and health protection.
