Blue Diamond Steel Casting in Pigeon Michigan Cited for MIOSHA Violations Totaling $205,400 in Proposed Penalties

For Immediate Release: The Michigan Occupational Safety and Health Administration (MIOSHA) issued citations to Blue Diamond Steel Casting, LLC for alleged safety and health violations of serious hazards to worker safety totaling $205,400 in penalties. MIOSHA is part of the Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs.

MIOSHA’s General Industry Safety and Health Division conducted two inspections of the company at 125 Strum Road, Pigeon, Michigan.

As a result of the inspections, a total of six serious citations, one willful serious citation, eight repeat-serious citations, seven other-than-serious citations, and one repeat other-than-serious citations were issued for the following statutory and rule violations:

  • Floor and Wall Openings, Stairways, and Skylights Part 2

  • Guards for Power Transmission Part 7

  • Metalworking Machinery Part 26

  • Personal Protective Equipment Part 33

  • Design Safety Standards for Electrical Systems Part 39

  • Electrical Safety-Related Work Practices Part 40

  • Slings Part 49

  • Automotive Service Operations Part 72

  • The Control of Hazardous Energy Sources Part 85

  • Permit Required Confined Spaces Part 90

  • Air Contaminants for General Industry Part 301

  • Respiratory Protection Part 451

The company has 15 working days from receipt of the citations to comply or contest the violations and penalties.
