August 11, 2016 – The Marathon Petroleum Company LP’s (MPC’s) Terminal Transport & Rail facility located at 3005 Holton Rd. in North Muskegon received the Michigan Voluntary Protection Program (MVPP) Star Award from the Michigan Occupational Safety and Health Administration (MIOSHA) for workplace safety and health excellence. The MIOSHA program is part of the Michigan Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs (LARA).
“MIOSHA is proud to present Marathon Petroleum with the Star award as they have a dedication to the health and safety of their employees in the workplace,” said Consultation Education and Training Division Director Nella Davis-Ray. “Daily use of creative safety and health programs helps promote a culture of workplace safety for its employees. MIOSHA is proud to continue collaboration on worker safety and health issues with Marathon.”
The terminal is a bulk receiving, storage, and distribution facility of refined petroleum products that include gasoline, ultra-low sulfur, diesel and kerosene. The products are received by truck and pipeline and are shipped out to different customers via truck.
"At Marathon Petroleum, our primary focus is on the safety and health of our employees, contractors and those who live in the communities where we operate,” said MPC Senior Vice President of Transportation and Logistics John Swearingen. “We are honored by this award and are proud to continue our partnership with MIOSHA in furthering our exemplary safety record, keeping this facility an industry-leading workplace.”
The MVPP Star is the most prestigious safety and health award given in Michigan. MIOSHA established the MVPP program in 1996 to recognize employers actively working toward achieving excellence in workplace safety and health.
