April 11, 2018 – The Hispanic Latino Commission of Michigan (HLCOM) recently hosted their second annual statewide graduation event in Lansing. Hispanic Latino graduates from colleges and universities across Michigan celebrated their many achievements, and the culmination of their collegiate journey along with HLCOM staff, community, and family members.
“Advanced education is one of many pathways out of poverty and earning a college degree will open many doors for these students,” said HLCOM Executive Director Felipe Lopez Sustaita. “We are proud to lead this event honoring those who are committed to their future and to the future of Michigan.”
The students were individually recognized for their efforts toward obtaining a college degree at the event held at the Lansing Center. Their families, fellow students, faculty, and administrators also were acknowledged for the support and guidance they provided. HLCOM recognized and thanked the sponsors of the event, Comcast and Michigan College Access Network.
HLCOM strives to market the state's career development services to Michigan Hispanics, encourage initiatives to reduce the high school dropout rates of Hispanic youth, and facilitate efforts to increase the enrollment of Hispanics in postsecondary education and training programs.
The Hispanic Latino Commission of Michigan is part of the Michigan Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs. Additional information regarding the Commission can be found on their Facebook page or their website.
