February 28, 2019 – The Michigan Occupational Safety and Health Administration (MIOSHA) and the Manufacturing Technology Mutual Insurance Company (MTMIC) signed an alliance agreement formalizing a mutual commitment to workplace safety and health.

MIOSHA CET director with MTMIC president"We’re pleased to sign this alliance that brings together our organizations to expand education, outreach and information sharing throughout the state,” said MIOSHA Director Bart Pickelman. “MTMIC is a longstanding MIOSHA partner and we look forward to continuing our relationship with them and their constituents to develop appropriate safety and health programs to keep workers safe.”

This marks the fourth time that MTMIC has renewed this alliance with MIOSHA. Previous alliance signings occurred in 2009, 2012 and 2015.

Through the alliance, MTMIC members will gain a greater understanding of the rights of workers and the responsibilities of employers under the Michigan Occupational Safety and Health Act (MIOSH Act). The team will meet at least three times per year to track and share information on activities and results in achieving the goals of the alliance. The alliance will remain in effect for three years from its date of signing.

“Since the inception of our alliance, 150 of our policyholders have used MIOSHA’s services with great success and deemed it an invaluable training tool,” said Chris Demeter, senior loss control consultant at MTMIC. “The alliance affords employers and selected employees the opportunity to learn how to identify unsafe or unhealthy acts or conditions and MIOSHA enforcement violations.”

MIOSHA alliances enable organizations committed to workplace safety and health to collaborate with MIOSHA to prevent workplace injuries and illnesses. Alliances are open to all groups, including trade or professional associations, businesses, labor organizations, educational institutions, and government agencies.

There are many benefits to participating in an alliance with MIOSHA, including:

  • Building trusting, cooperative relationships.
  • Networking with others committed to workplace safety and health.
  • Exchanging information about best practices.
  • Leveraging resources to maximize worker safety and health protection.
