Welcome to the Michigan Board of Midwifery website! Our goal is to provide up-to-date information on various topics related to the practice of midwifery in Michigan. We hope you find this information helpful and invite you to check out our website often.

Recent legislation effective April 4, 2017 has amended the Michigan Public Health Code (Code), 1978 PA 368. Pursuant to 2016 PA 417, MCL 333.17101, midwife means an individual who is licensed under part 171 of the Code to engage in the practice of midwifery.

Pursuant to MCL 333.17117(1), by April 4, 2019, the Department, in consultation with the Board, shall promulgate rules to establish and implement the license program for the practice of midwifery. Once rules have been promulgated our website will be updated accordingly to include a licensure application along with supporting licensing guides and FAQs.
