Apply to Operate a Camp

This page is intended for individuals or organizations that have not been licensed in the last year. Determine the camp license appropriate for your organization by reviewing the definitions below.  License issuance typically takes six to eight weeks but is contingent upon fire safety and environmental health certifications.

  • “Children’s Camp” means a residential, day, troop, or travel camp that provides care and supervision and is conducted in a natural environment for more than 4 children, apart from the children’s parents, relatives, or legal guardians, for 5 or more days in a 14-day period.

  • “Adult Foster Care Camp” or “adult camp” means an adult foster care facility with the approved capacity to receive more than 4 adults who shall be provided foster care. An adult foster care camp is a facility located in a natural or rural environment.”

  • "Foster Care" means the provision of supervision, personal care, and protection in addition to room and board, for 24 hours a day, 5 or more days a week, and for 2 or more consecutive weeks for compensation provided at a single address.

  • “Residential Camp” means a camp that provides care on a 24-hr basis at a regulated campsite.

  • “Day Camp” means a camp that provides care more than 4 but less than 24 hours a day.

  • “Travel Camp” means a camp that provides care on a 24-hour basis that is not stationed at a specific campsite.

  • “Troop Camp” means a camp sponsored by the Boys Scouts of America or the Girl Scouts of the USA that provides care on a 24-hour basis and is not stationed at a specific campsite.

  •  “Campsite” means an outdoor setting that has natural or man-made features available for outdoor living or activities and is located where a camp is operated.

Original Applications

Camp PROGRAM Original License

Applicants for a camp PROGRAM Original license (Children’s Residential Camp, Day Camp, Travel Camp, Troop Camp, or Adult Foster Care Camp) shall follow the application instructions below.  The original camp PROGRAM license is issued for six months. A renewal application must be submitted prior to the end of the six-month period for continued license status. License issuance typically takes six to eight weeks but is contingent upon fire safety and environmental health certifications.   Note all Residential, Day, and Adult Foster Care camps need to operate at a licensed camp SITE.

Camp SITE Original License

Applicants for a camp SITE Original license (Residential or Day Site) shall follow the instructions below.  The Original camp SITE license is issued for six months.  A renewal application must be submitted prior to the end of the six-month period for continued license status.
