Eric J. Schneidewind
Eric is a Michigan native who returned home after obtaining a Bachelors degree at University of California Berkeley to attend the University of Michigan Law School. He served in Michigan's government for 15 years culminating in his appointment as Chairman of the Michigan Public Service Commission. He then entered private practice with the Grand Rapids Varnum law firm for 30 years concentrating on renewable energy projects. He has had numerous leadership roles in the volunteer sector, including as President of Michigan AARP, membership in the National Board of Directors of AARP and as National President of AARP. Eric also worked as a volunteer at the Lansing Loaves and Fishes homeless shelter for more than 25 years.
A focus of Eric's service in state government and in his volunteerism has been to implement programs which address the economic and social needs of low income Americans. He believes that recent medical advances have given many of today's retirees an extra 10 years of healthy life that can be harnessed through volunteer programs to improve the lives of less fortunate Americans.
