Northwestern Michigan College Addresses Talent Shortage
March 25, 2026
In a competitive market, finding talent ready to contribute immediately is a constant challenge. Northwestern Michigan College (NMC) addresses this by serving as a Related Technical Instruction provider.
The college specializes in developing customized training that aligns with national Registered Apprenticeship Program standards while meeting the specific needs of employers.
NMC has redesigned the Associate in Applied Science, Technical Management Administration Degree specifically for US Department of Labor (DOL) registered apprentices. This pathway allows a company’s workforce to translate field experience into up to 30 academic credits. With the remaining 33 credits available both in person and online, your team can earn a degree without stepping away from their vital roles.
NMC also has certificate pathways for USDOL apprentices. The Manufacturing Apprenticeship Certificate combines work, on-the-job training and classroom instruction to prepare workers for high-skilled careers.
“NMC’s adaptive apprenticeship manufacturing technology certificate program, taught by real technicians with hands‑on experience, gives our apprentices practical skills they use on the job every day. It’s a powerful tool for building Lear’s future workforce,” shared a Lear Plant Manager in Traverse City.
NMC Manufacturing faculty also see the impact of apprenticeship degree programs. "Apprentices in the classroom are amazing! Their real-life experiences add to the academics for a rich conversation that benefits all,” shared Amy Burns-Bailey, NMC Workforce Programs Director. “They have a high work ethic and are vested in education for the betterment of their careers."
