    2018 Public Library Services Grants

    The Public Library Services grants have been awarded. The Library of Michigan awarded 71 libraries a combined total of $118,295. The applications were for a wide range of programs that were really creative. Projects include summer music classes, Maker Space training, robotics, hot spot linked programs, etc. See the 2018 Grantees List.

  • Public Library Services Grant Program


    This summer quick grant provides Michigan public libraries the opportunity to purchase supplies and materials for a specific program. Applications must be for a program that fits one of the topics and LSTA priorities listed below. Requested materials must be for that program.

    2018 Program Topics:

    • Literacy Programs – This area is for the broad idea of literacy programs. Appropriate ideas may include early literacy stations, financial literacy curriculum, ESL materials and curriculum, digital literacy class supplies and curriculum, etc.
    • Children & Teen Programs – This area is for library related children’s and teen programs. Appropriate ideas may include materials necessary to do STEM activities, cultural enrichment program supplies, story time materials, etc.
    • Technology Programs – This area is for programs that improve community access to technology. Appropriate ideas may include tablets, 3-D printers, assistive technology for disabled patrons, etc. Libraries requesting Internet capable devices must comply with CIPA regulations.

    • Programs or services to individuals of diverse geographic, cultural, and socioeconomic backgrounds;
    • Programs or services to individuals with disabilities, to individuals with limited functional literacy or information skills; or
    • Programs or services expanding services for learning and access to information.


    The grant period is June to August annually, if funds are available. Funding is from $500 to $2,000 per grant. The Library of Michigan will fund as many projects as possible that meet the grant criteria. Funds are distributed by reimbursement after the program is completed..

    APPLICANT ELIGIBILITY: Michigan public libraries that are legally established and currently eligible for state aid. Small and rural libraries or libraries that have not received a grant in the last year may be given preference if funding is limited. Grant applications are peer reviewed and a scoring rubric is below and in the Application Information.
