State Librarian Nancy Robertson encouraged this expansion of library hours in response to popular demand, saying: “Our users have been asking for extended hours, and we are happy to be able to accommodate them in this fashion. We also look forward to welcoming new library users who are able to take this added opportunity to explore our unique collections.”
The Library’s current open hours during the week, Monday-Friday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., will remain the same.
State Superintendent Mike Flanagan said that added opportunities to visit the Library of Michigan is aligned with the Michigan Department of Education’s effort to build a Culture of Reading in Michigan.
“We encourage individuals and families to visit the Library of Michigan, as well as their neighborhood libraries, on a frequent basis,” Flanagan said. “Reading is the foundation of learning, and our libraries offer free and open access to adults and children eager to learn.”
