Library of Michigan
This exhibit can be enjoyed by everyone. Writers, artists, naturalists, kids and adults. Gijsbert has made his philosophy of “make your hobby your career” a mantra that carries over to his daily life. His love of nature, drawing and patient observations can be seen throughout the journal entries and images. From the slow decomposition of a buck, with daily visits by wary crows, to the life cycle of a family of Canada geese. Wetlands equipped with all manner of bird boxes and natural nesting cavities entice bluebirds, wood ducks, herons and mergansers (to name a few) for him to sketch and observe. These can all be seen in the expansive exhibit of his years of nature journaling.
