Position Summary:

The Village of Lexington, MI is seeking applications for P/T Police Officers.The Village of Lexington, population 1,178 (2010 census) is a picturesque community located on the shores of Lake Huron in Sanilac County, Michigan. The village’s proximity to the metropolitan Detroit area and several major roadways, including Interstate 94, have earned Lexington its reputation as the “First Resort North” in reference to the Village’s idyllic setting and geographic location. During the summer months, the Village of Lexington’s population often quadruples, transforming the village into a regional hub for the arts, culture and tourism. 

P/T Police Officers conduct routine patrol, working 8-12-hour shifts, as needed. Applicants should possess strong communication skills, a demonstrated understanding of police patrol operations and the ability to work with other departments and community organizations. The Lexington Police Department is committed to a customer service and community policing model.

This position reports to the Chief of Police and is responsible for the following:

  • Performs routine patrol / shift duties / taking and responding to calls for service
  • Enforces all Federal and State of Michigan Laws, as well as Village Ordinances
  • Conducts Criminal Investigations
  • Enforces traffic laws and conducts traffic related investigations
  • Makes arrests and interviews persons / subjects
  • Effectively communicates verbally and in writing – capable of preparing police reports, citations and warrants
  • Performs other duties as defined by the Chief of Police

Minimum Qualifications:

  • MCOLES license required
  • Minimum of High School Diploma, Associates Degree Preferred in a related field
  • A demonstrated ability to interact in a professional, dignified and cooperative manner with the public, as well as fellow law enforcement officers and Village staff
  • Valid Michigan Driver’s License
  • Clear criminal history

Physical Demands:

  • Extensive driving, standing, walking, performing patrols, directing traffic and providing physical assistance in emergency situations

Work Hours: 
8-12-hour shifts, as needed; approximately 20 hours per week or as seasonal demands warrant.
