Position Summary:

Under the supervision of a Sergeant or other command officer, patrols the County in order to enforce the laws, investigate criminal activities and perform a variety of functions related to protecting lives and property within the County. May be assigned to road patrol, detective bureau, traffic enforcement and crash reconstruction, school liaison, narcotics, or other specialized assignments.

Qualifications:

  • Education: High school graduation or equivalent.
  • Prefer advanced coursework in police administration, criminal justice, or related areas.
  • Experience: Prefer some related experience in a reserve, cadet or other capacity. Some assignments may require prior experience as a Deputy Sheriff.

Other Requirements:

  • MCOLES certification.
  • Certification in CPR, First Aid, PBT, radar, and firearms safety.
  • Some assignments may have additional requirements.
  • Valid Michigan Driver's License.

Relevant Skills/Specialized Equipment Knowledge:

  • Basic office equipment such as telephone, calculator, photocopier, Fax, etc.
  • Photographic, audio and video equipment.
  • Computer programs including word processing, spreadsheets, database entry and maintenance, and GIS/mapping.
  • Ability to be on-call 24/7.
  • Ability to use mobile camera systems, records management systems, computer aided dispatch system, mobile software systems, e-ticketing systems and hardware.
  • Ability to use firearms, radios, total station, robots, video cameras, night visions, thermal imagers, CAD drawing software and tasers.
  • Effective problem solving capabilities.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Effective public speaking skills.

FULL-TIME WITH ABILITY TO WORK OVERTIME, ROTATING DAYS/SHIFTS AND ON-CALL 24/7 This is a full-time position with benefits eligible, including 120 hours of paid time off and paid holidays, following 90 calendar days of service.
