River Rouge Public Safety Department: Public Safety Officer Closing Date: September 30, 2023

Job Summary:

River Rouge PSO’s are fully certified as police officers and cross trained as firefighters.  All PSO officers respond to calls for either police matters or fire emergencies.  River Rouge will hire police officers and send them through the fire academy.  PSO’s handle all calls with professionalism and courtesy.  

Work Hours:

8 hour shifts (days, afternoons, midnights, plus overtime)

Wages/Benefits:

  • Patrolman base wages range from probationary (non-PSO) $50,604.32 to four (4) year (PSO) $71,145.77
  • All PSO officers receive additional pay incentives for afternoons/midnights, holidays, uniforms and cleaning, weapon allowance, firearm proficiency, longevity, radar/laser, and breathalyzer.  
  • A MERS Defined Benefit pension at 2.25% with a maximum of 80% of FAC.

Duty Examples:

  • Patrol the entire city , issues violations when needed,  and makes arrests when required.
  • Write incident reports, daily logs, vehicle check lists, etc.
  • Maintain fire gear 

All chosen applicants must meet MCOLES written and physical requirements prior to submitting an application. Applicants that meet these requirements may be called back for an interview.  If selected, applicants will be sent for a physical and psychological exam, a thorough background investigation will then be completed prior to hiring.
