Hamtramck Police Department: Full Time Police Officer and Part Time Police Officer Closing Date: November 30, 2022

The City of Hamtramck is seeking a highly qualified and motivated individuals for the position of Police Officer.  Hamtramck is a diverse community of 28,000 plus citizens located in a 2.2 square mile area located in Wayne County, MI.   Applicants should possess strong communication skills, an understanding of police patrol operations and the ability to work with other department and community organizations.  All applicants must satisfactorily pass oral interviews, a physical exam with drug test, a psychological exam, and a thorough background investigation.  All applicants must have successfully passed both the written and agility tests of the Michigan Commission on Law Enforcement Standards (MCOLES) and provide supporting documentation.  All offers of employment are contingent upon an applicant's successful completion of all psychological and physical examinations.  All applicants must be either a certified Police Officer or a certifiable Police Officer in the State of Michigan.  All applicants must successfully complete the Field Training Officers program prior to the end of the probationary period.  

Prior to applying, all applicants must have taken and passed the Police Officers entry level examination administered by EMPCO to be considered for employment with the Hamtramck Police Department.  


To perform responsible law enforcement and patrol work; to maintain order and patrol an assigned area; regulate traffic, protect life and property and prevent crime and disorder; to provide assistance at the scene of accidents and other emergencies; and to perform related work as required.  

Compensation and Benefits:

  • Pay range $46,192 - $66,036 (effective July 1, 2022)

Minimum Qualifications for Employment:

  • Must possess a valid Michigan driver's license.
  • Must meet all MCOLES licensing standards 
  • Candidates must either be a State of Michigan Certified Police Officer or MCOLES certifiable status.
  • Clear criminal history
  • Able to pass background, physical, drug screen and psychological screening 

Once applicants complete and pass the EMPCO Police Officer Entry Level Examination and select the Hamtramck Police Department as a preferred choice at the time of testing, the applicants will be contacted by the Hamtramck Police Department to start the process of application with the city.
