Description:
The Washtenaw County Prosecutor is seeking an investigator position for the Sexual Assault Investigation (SAKI) Team. This is temporary county position with some benefits funded through a grant administered by the Michigan State Police. The position will work as part of multi-disciplinary team consisting of the Michigan Attorney General, Washtenaw County Prosecutor, and the SafeHouse Center. The team’s purpose is to investigate cold case sexual assaults by thoroughly analyzing criminal complaints, laboratory results and medical records. Using a victim centered approach, applicants will locate victims, witnesses and suspects to bring closure to each investigation.
Responsibilities:
- Conduct criminal investigations arising from testing previously untested sexual assault kits as assigned.
- Locate and interview victims, witnesses and suspects.
- Assist in drafting search warrants and direct or participate in the execution of search warrants.
- Collect evidence and maintain a proper chain of custody.
- Work with other law enforcement agencies in joint operations. Arrest and process suspects charged with crimes arising from testing previously untested sexual assault kits.
- Assist attorneys in their courtroom presentations.
- Serve subpoenas. Appear at court proceedings, maintain evidence, and coordinate witnesses.
- Provide truthful testimony at court proceedings. Provide data about investigations and prosecutions. Track progress of investigations.
Qualifications:
- Must have a high school diploma.
- Must have good verbal and written communication skills, background or understanding of criminal investigations and the ability to work as part of team.
Experience:
Three years of experience with a law enforcement agency as an MCOLES licensed police officer conducting investigations in a criminal investigation unit or detective bureau. Must possess a valid Michigan driver's license.
