City of Ovid: Chief of Police Closing Date: July 7, 2022

PART-TIME General Requirements:

  • Be a United States of America Citizen
  • Must have proven leadership skills, and ability to be a team player
  • No felony convictions
  • Successfully pass a comprehensive background check, physical examination, and drug screening test.
  • Must have good knowledge in the types and uses of firearms, communications and automotive equipment used in modern police work

Required Education, Training and Experience:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Associate degree in police administration, law enforcement, criminal justice, sociology, public administration, or related field
  • Possess a valid State of Michigan driver's license with good driving history
  • Must be either licensed or eligible to be licensed as a police officer by MCOLES
  • 20 years of law enforcement experience
  • Must have computer, two-way radio, and standard office equipment knowledge
  • Must have knowledge of federal and state laws

General Purpose of Position:

To maintain order and protect the City of Ovid. The Chief of Police is responsible for the overall performance of the City of Ovid Police Department. The Chief reports directly to the City Council, with day-to-day reporting to the mayor. This is a part-time administrative position of 30 hours per week with no benefits. Starting pay is $30.00 per hour, but negotiable within a set pay scale.
