The City of Grayling, Michigan is seeking qualified candidates for the position of Police Officer. Officers of the Grayling Police Department must be committed to protecting and serving with fairness, through partnerships in the community that improve the quality of life in Grayling. Under general supervision, Grayling Police Officers perform a wide variety of duties involving the enforcement of laws and the prevention of crimes; controls traffic flow and enforces state and local traffic regulations; issues citations; participates in and conducts a variety of criminal investigations; makes arrests; provides support and assistance to special crime prevention and law enforcement programs; and performs a variety of technical and administrative tasks in support of law enforcement services and activities.
Applicants will be required to complete and pass:
- Pre-employment psychological examination
- Physical examination including drug screening
- Extensive background investigation
Applicants must fulfill the following minimum qualifications at the time of application:
- Must be 18 years of age
- MCOLES licensed or licensable by time of appointment
- United States Citizen
- Associates degree in law enforcement, criminal justice or related field
- No felony convictions and/or disqualifying criminal histories
- Must be of good moral character
- Valid operators or chauffeur's license
- Excellent writing and communication skills
Wages and Benefits:
The position offers a competitive salary and a comprehensive benefit package including employer paid health, dental, and vision insurance and Defined Contribution plan with 11% employer contribution. Additional pay available for licenses in Fire Fighter I & II and EMT.
