Alpena Police Department: Police Officer Closing Date: December 31, 2022

The Alpena Police Department is recruiting candidates to fill vacancies for the position of Police Officer.  Preference may be given to applicants who are M.C.O.L.E.S. licensed or eligible for licensing by the date of appointment, but the department may consider sending employed recruits to a M.C.O.L.E.S. recognized police academy.  An excellent driving record is required, and applicants must pass, to the City's satisfaction, all pre-employment screenings.   Officers must reside within 25 miles of the nearest jurisdictional boundary, but a reasonable time may be afforded to meet the requirement.

The department provides 24-hour law enforcement services for the largest city in northeast Michigan.  Located on the scenic shores of Lake Huron, APD offers a D.A.R.E. program to all in-city public and parochial schools, a School Resource Officer to the Alpena Public Schools and Alpena Community College.  An officer from the department also serves on a multi-jurisdictional narcotics team.
