Chocolay Township Police Department: Road Patrol Officer Closing Date: December 31, 2022

The Department: Chocolay Township is a close-knit community located just south of Marquette, MI. Chocolay Township Police is made up of 5 full-time officers that serve a population of 5,982 residence, dispersed within a 60 square mile jurisdiction. The Chocolay Township Police Department work from both a proactive policing and community-based policing approach. Officers are expected to be visible within and work closely with the community and its members. Officers regularly work in various forms of patrol, with overtime opportunities for working snowmobile patrol and ORV patrol.

Our mandate is to do so with the honor and integrity, while always conducting ourselves with the highest ethical standard to maintain public confidence. 

What We Are Looking For: Our department works as a tight knit team, yet officers are expected to work without direct supervision, while maintaining a high level of service. Prospective officers must possess a proactive attitude and be willing to make decisions in stressful situations. Prospective officers must be willing to handle various levels of calls, from basic traffic violations, all the way to conducting investigation on high level felonies. Prospective officers must be willing to work various shifts, to include nights and weekends.  Prospective officers are expected to hold themselves to the highest ethical standards both at work and while off duty, in order to maintain public’s trust. 

The minimum education requirement is High School Diploma or Equivalent and College coursework in criminal justice, police science, law enforcement, public administration, or a closely related field. Applicants must currently be certifiable or certified under MCOLES.  Applicant must possess a valid operator’s license issued by the State of Michigan. Our agency will consider lateral transfers and consideration will be given based on experience.
