Bridgman Police Department: Full-time Police Officer Closing Date: October 31, 2022

Located along the shores of beautiful Lake Michigan, the City of Bridgman (population 2096) is a charming community in southwest Berrien County and an easy driving distance from Chicago, South Bend and Grand Rapids.  We are currently seeking qualified candidates for a full-time patrol officer.  Join our team and work in a community that supports our officers, has an outstanding public school system, and provides the enjoyable balance of a quaint small town in the spring, fall and winter, and a bustling destination in the summer.  

Bridgman Police Department will consider sponsorship of a qualified candidate for the 2023 Police Academy to fill this vacancy.  The academy would likely begin in January and conclude in April, 2023.

General Summary: 

Our officers proudly provide law enforcement services to citizens residing in and visiting the City of Bridgman.  

Typical duties and responsibilities:

  • Investigate reports of crimes, accidents, and other incidents.
  • Gather, protect, and process evidence.
  • Enforce ordinances and statutes, making arrests where appropriate; processing and protecting prisoners as required.
  • Providing traffic and parking enforcement and traffic control.
  • Responding to other calls for service, such as motorist's assists, etc.
  • Complete all necessary reports, tickets, forms, and in-house paperwork as required.
  • Check out suspicious subjects, vehicles, and situations.
  • Serve subpoenas and other documents as required.
  • As appropriate, conduct property checks of businesses, public buildings and areas, and private homes.
  • Provide preventive patrol.

Qualifications for a Police Officer:

  • Applicants must be a U.S. citizen and possess a high school diploma or equivalent.
  • Successfully complete all phases of the selection process.
  • Have completed training at an accredited police academy and be licensed through MCOLES is preferred.
  • Must possess a valid driver's license and very good driving record.  
  • Must be willing to work holidays, weekends and all shifts assigned.
  • Must pass an extensive background investigation.

Qualification for an Academy Sponsorship:

  • Be 21 years of age
  • Be a high school graduate or have GED (college degree strongly preferred)
  • Have no felony convictions; misdemeanors will be considered on a case-by-case basis
  • Possess a valid driver's license and good driving record
  • Applicants must have passed the MCOLES reading and writing exam as well as the physical agility test prior to applying.
  • Be a U.S. citizen
  • Successfully complete all phases of the selection process
  • BPD is a marijuana-free workplace


Starting salary is negotiable based on qualifications and experience.  Holiday premiums and overtime are available.
