Hamburg Township Police: Full-Time Police Officer Closing Date: November 23, 2022

Hamburg Township is accepting applications for the position of full-time Police Officer. 


Hamburg Township is a 36-square mile general law township located in Livingston County with a population of 21,259 residents (2020 census). Hamburg Township is home to over 30 lakes, the Huron River, a 6.5 mile stretch of the Lakelands Trail State Park and the Brighton State Recreation Area making it a top recreational destination in the area. Our officers enjoy strong support from the community, prosecutor's office and elected officials as well as an excellent working relationship with the police administration. Hamburg Township has been consistently ranked as one of the safest communities in the State of Michigan over the past 10 years.


  • 18 full-time officers.
  • Two detective positions.
  • Officer assigned full time to the Livingston and Washtenaw Narcotics Enforcement Team (LAWNET).
  • Department officers are members of the following collaborative teams:
    • Livingston Regional SWAT Team
    • Livingston Crisis Negotiators Team
    • Livingston Dive Team
    • Livingston Major Crash Team
    • Hamburg Township Public Safety Drone Team
  • Road patrol officers work 12-hour shifts.
  • Officers perform marine patrols on the Chain of Lakes utilizing department patrol boats and jet skis (voluntary overtime detail).
  • Officers perform patrols on the Lakelands Trail utilizing department ATVs and mountain bikes (voluntary overtime detail).
  • Department has a strong employee physical wellness program including an on-staff personal trainer/nutrition coach, on-duty workout periods, and annual physical fitness incentives. 


  • Must be a citizen of the United States.
  • Must have reached 21st birthday at time of appointment.
  • Must be MCOLES licensed or eligible for licensing upon appointment.
  • Must possess a valid driver's license at time of application.
  • No felony convictions and/or disqualifying criminal history.
  • Must possess at minimum an Associate's Degree (or 60 credits) from an accredited college (Bachelor's degree preferred).
  • Ability to successfully pass an extensive background check, physical examination, psychological examination and drug screening test.
  • Ability to perform the essential job functions of a police officer.

Current annual salary structure:

  • Starting salary:   $56,063.28
  • After 6 months:  $60,060.00 
  • After 1 year:        $64,056.72 
  • After 2 years:       $68,075.28
  • After 3 years:       $72,050.16
  • After 4 years:       $80,021.76 

(Note: These salaries will increase 3% on 07/01/23 and 3% on 7/01/24 per the Collective Bargaining Agreement).

  • MERS defined benefit pension plan with 2.25 multiplier.
  • Blue Cross-Blue Shield Community Blue PPO medical/dental/vision plan. 
  • 14 paid holidays. 
  • Paid vacation time.
  • 12 hours of paid sick time earned per month.
  • College tuition reimbursement (up to $6,000 per year).
  • Annual educational incentive bonus: Associate?s Degree: $500, Bachelor's Degree: $1000, Master's Degree: $1500. 
  • All overtime worked on marine patrol details paid at double time.
