**$15,000 HIRING BONUS FOR LATERAL TRANSFER POLICE OFFICERS AND FIREFIGHTERS**
Public Safety Department
- Type of Position: Public Safety Officer
- Start Date: based on applicant pool and KDPS Training schedule
- Work Hours / Days: 12 hr shifts (w/7 day “off” stretch)
- PSOs work 14 days in a 28-day rotation with 2 weekends off per month
Wage Scale for Full/Part-time MCOLES Certified or able to be certified through RPTE program:
- $55,451.76 (less than 1 year of service)
- $58,662.24 (1 year to less than 2 years of service)
- $61,392.24 (2 years to less than 3 years of service)
- $64,100.40 (3 years or more of completed service)
Wage Scale for Full-Time Firefighter I & II and licensed MFR:
- $55,451.76 (less than 1 year of service)
- $58,662.24 (1 year to less than 2 years of service)
- $61,392.24 (2 years to less than 3 years of service)
- $64,100.40 (3 years or more of completed service)
- **As of 1/1/2023, Public Safety Officer top pay is $82,511.52
Public Safety Officers (PSOs) protect and serve the community by responding to calls for service involving police, fire and medical emergencies, in a professional and caring manner, to enhance the quality of life for all people in the City of Kalamazoo. A PSO is fully cross-trained/certified in Police, Firefighting & Medical 1st Responder duties and also performs duties that deter crime and build community trust based on 21st Century Policing principles, including regular outreach and engagement with citizens.
