Springport Township Police Department: Full-time Police Officer/School Resource Officer Closing Date: July 31, 2023

Springport Township is a rural area with a population of approximately 2,100 residents. It is located in northwest corner of Jackson County, Michigan. Located within Springport Township is the Village of Springport, which provides a small downtown area with local shops.

The Springport Township Police Department is currently seeking a full-time Police Officer/School Resource Officer, for the Springport Public Schools. Springport Public Schools has approximately 1,000 students between the elementary, middle, and high school.  Springport Township is an active community which shows tremendous support of its police department. 

The Ideal Candidate:

• Will have the ability and drive to take on many different roles within the Springport Township Police Department and the Springport Public Schools.

Qualifications/Requirements:

• MCOLES licensed or licensable is preferred.
• Must possess a valid Michigan's Driver License, and an acceptable driving history.
• Must be a US citizen and at least 21 years of age.
• Must successfully pass the hiring process, including a complete background investigation.
• Candidates will be subject to a pre-employment drug screen, physical and psychological examination, when applicable.
• Must possess a High School Diploma/GED.
• Must possess an Associates degree and have successfully passed a Michigan accredited police academy.

Wage and Benefits:

• Starting wage will be between $22/hr. to $28/hr. for full time position which would include working summers within the township when school is not in session. This would also include healthcare and retirement (MERS).
• Starting wage will be $35/hr. to $38/hr. for season SRO position that does not work summers or school off-days and does not require healthcare insurance or retirement.
• Healthcare benefits provided.
• Defined Benefit retirement pension (MERS). Employee 5% contribution, with employer match 5%.
• Life insurance- $100,000, provided by employer at no cost.
• Paid Sick/ Vacation (PTO).
