Sumpter Township Police Department: Full-time Police Officer Closing Date: September 30, 2023

The Sumpter Township Police Department is accepting applications for the position of Police Officer. All submissions must contain a cover letter, applicant resume, and Sumpter Township Police Department employment application.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS (include, but are not limited to):

• At least 21 years of age
• Be a United States citizen
• MCOLES licensed/ eligible to be licensed. 
• No disqualifying criminal convictions.
• Ability to perform the essential job functions of a police officer.
• Associate’s Degree (minimum); undergraduate degree or higher preferred.
• Possess a valid operator's license w/ an excellent driving record
• Must pass a drug screen, physical, psychiatric exam, and background investigation
• If not a sworn LEO, must be tested through EMPCO with a passing grade at the time of application (www.empco.net).
• Complete all phases of the hiring process

WAGES & BENEFITS (*per current contract running through 3/31/26):

• The current first-year base salary is $61,968 - $72,546 DOQ
• The current top base salary at three years of service is $81,037
• Three longevity pay steps of $0.40 on top of base salary at 7, 12, and 17 years
• 12-hour shifts w/ Kelly Days (84 hours per bi-weekly pay period)
• MERS Defined Benefit Pension (B-4 2.5 multiplier, F50/25, V6, E2)
