The City of Davison Police Department is currently seeking a motivated and qualified individual to join our team. This position is responsible for safeguarding human lives, protecting property, and preserving peace and order in the City. Must be committed to protecting and serving with fairness, through partnerships that improve the quality of life in the Davison community as a whole.
The Davison City Police Department has a close and outstanding working relationship with the Davison Community Schools. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Must be a U.S. Citizen and resident of the State of Michigan
- Must be at least twenty-one (21) years of age
- Possess a two-year degree in Criminal Justice or a related field. Or an equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered for employment
- Must be MCOLES licensed or licensable as a police officer in the State of Michigan prior to employment
- Passed MCOLES pre-employment written and physical agility exams at the time of application
- No felony convictions, and/or disqualifying criminal histories
- Must be able to perform the essential job functions of a police officer
- Possess excellent moral character
- Must have a valid operator or chauffeur license and good driving history
- Successfully complete a background, medical exam, drug screen, psychological exam, and all other phases of the selection process
WAGES AND BENEFITS:
- 12-hour shifts
- Five percent night shift premium
- 14 holidays paid at 2.5 times the employee's regular rate of pay for all hours worked
- Lateral Transfer Opportunities (a competitive wage may be determined by years of service) As of July 1, 2023, the current base hourly pay range was increased to $22.41 to $34.20, not including shift premium. With a six-year top-out wage scale. (Lateral Transfers from other agencies, will be considered for pay purposes only)
- Detective and Sergeant premiums
- Pension: MERS Defined Benefit Plan with a 1.50% multiplier, FAC–3, F55/25, 6-year vesting, and Act 88. Along with a Defined Contribution Plan with 5% of each Employer and Employee Contribution
- HSA upon retirement with Employer and Employee Contribution paid amount into account
- Employer paid yearly amount into approved 457 plan(s)
- An excellent healthcare plan, which includes medical, dental, and vision coverages for employees and eligible dependents and life insurance
- Uniforms, external vest options along with equipment and dry cleaning are provided at no expense to the employee
- Paid vacation, sick and personal leave time hours earned from day one and based on years of service
- Contractual officer duty-boot allowance along with shoe and clothing allowance for detective
- Department-issued employee patrol rifle with lighted sight and Taser
- Employee earned paid leave time opportunity up to 80 hours cash out per year
- Tattoos allowed on a case-by-case basis, BUT any tattoo(s) showing a devil with a pitchfork or a scary clown laughing face with sharp teeth, any full or half skeletons holding a gun or knife or a skull for that matter, will not be permitted to be visible to the public. Remember to choose wisely when sitting in that tattoo chair, could be a hot summer wearing that long sleeve uniform shirt
- In regards to beards and mullets, they are permissible per policy (Just kidding – No mullets, i.e, “Kentucky Waterfall” or “Nebraska Neck-Warmer” are allowed!) But - we are getting desperate, so consideration is pending at this time per the Chief. As I mentioned above, it could be a hot summer, so high and tight may be the better option at this time
