Iosco County Sheriff's Office: Dispatch Clerk (Full and Part-time)

Pay scale commensurate with experience. $17.34-$19.89 per hour. Full competitive benefit package; health, dental, vision, and life insurance coverage, paid sick, personal and vacation leave. Retirement package includes a DC retirement-employer match with a maximum 8%. 

Dispatch Clerks are responsible for performing a wide variety of office support duties related to the review, preparation and input of various police reports; responds to public requests and inquiries in regard to police reports and records.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Essential functions as defined are ILLUSTRATIVE ONLY and not a comprehensive listing of all functions and duties performed by incumbents within this classification. Essential duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Assists general public, customers and staff in person, over telephone and by email; answers inquiries, provides general direction related to services, receives and attempts to resolve complaints, operates a cash register, explains policies, collect fingerprints, procedures and proper use/completion of department forms.
  • Processes and maintains accurate records in various computer systems of police reports, warrants, personal protection orders, bond conditions, probation orders,  trespassing orders, accidents,  gun permits, etc.
  • Scans documents as required; identifies records for destruction in accordance with pre-determined retention and destruction schedules; files and maintains records.
  • Review, correct and submit data to State agencies.
  • Organizes, compiles and reports statistical data on functions, programs and activities.
  • Runs daily reports as required.
  • Enters and retrieves data and prepares reports using a variety of software programs; reviews such reports for accuracy and makes corrections as required; operates standard office equipment.
  • Contributes to the efficiency and effectiveness of the unit's service to its customers by offering suggestions and directing or participating as an active member of a work team.
  • Demonstrates courteous and cooperative behavior when interacting with public and staff; acts in a manner that promotes a harmonious and effective workplace environment.
  • High school diploma (or GED); AND
  • One (1) year of administrative support experience: OR
  • An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • Prior law enforcement experience; a plus.
  • Ability to obtain State of Michigan Notary Public and LEIN certification within six months of date of employment.

The Dispatch-Clerk is often the beginning and ending of events at the Iosco Sheriff's Office. The front desk brings a variety of requests and needs from the citizens of our County. From filing police reports, taking fingerprints, issuing firearm purchase permits, to processing police reports, submitting crime statistics and archiving paperwork, the Iosco Sheriff's Office is a busy place!
