POSITION SUMMARY:
40 hours per week average work available. Learn and perform the duties of a Clare Police Officer as required to protect the safety of the community.
WAGES AND BENEFITS:
- $22.83-$26.46 starting wage based on experience. Top out in 5 yrs at 28.60
- MERS Defined Benefit Retirement: 55/25 with a 2.25 multiplier.

- PTO starts at 176 hrs a yr and tops out at 296 hrs at 5yrs.
- Rotating Schedule 2/2/3. Every other weekend off. (Frid-Sund)

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Learn and apply the state law, city ordinances, and other governing laws
- Investigate and write police report on complaints
- Issue citation and appearance tickets
- Appear in court as a witness, or to present evidence
- Serve summons and other legal documents
- Prepare daily documents of shift events
- Attend training as required by law as well as the local level
- Be proficient in radio usage, computers, firearms, defensive tactics, and other variables
- Conduct patrol
- Learn and follow the chain of command
- Other duties as assigned
CONTACTS/PURPOSE OF CONTACTS:
Contacts are with citizens, general public, associates of the immediate organization, other law enforcement officers, frequent contact with court staff.
WORK ENVIRONMENT/SAFETY HAZARDS:
The work environment involves everyday risks or discomforts with require normal safety precautions. May be involved in high risk environments with exposure to potentially dangerous situations. The work involved normally requires some physical exertions and at times could be considerable strenuous.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Must be a U.S citizen. Must have a high school diploma or equivalent. MCOLES licensed or licensable at time of application. Must have integrity and reputation above reproach. Must have a valid Michigan Driver's License. Applicant should have no misdemeanor arrests within the last 3 years, and have no felony convictions (including expunged). Applicant must pass a rigorous selection process that may include, but in not limited to, intensive background investigation, oral review, drug screening, psychological evaluation, and medical evaluation.
Previous work experience preferred but not required.
