Somerset Township Police Department: Police Officer Closing Date: December 31, 2023

The Somerset Township Police Department is a small, but experienced department that is deeply supported by its residents.  Last fall, a millage was passed to fund the police department for the next ten years.  We are looking for a full-time officer to join us in protecting this township.  

Our desired candidate will be someone that would immerse themselves into the community, show initiative, has the ability to make correct decisions with minimal supervision and has a goal to constantly improve themselves and the department. We focus on community policing and have a customer service attitude. We work closely with the Somerset Township Fire and Emergency Medical Services to provide the best public safety that we can.

The jurisdiction is made up of a population of approximately 4300 people within a 35.5 square mile area.  The department responds to approximately 1300 calls for service each year, 75% of which come directly through Hillsdale County 911.  Somerset is perched on the eastern edge of Hillsdale County and bordered by both Jackson and Lenawee Counties. Scenic, yet diverse, the Township of Somerset offers rolling hills, farmland, state game areas, lakes communities, and a dedicated commercial corridor along US-12.

All Applicants must:

  • Be at least 21 years of age.
  • Be a United States Citizen.
  • Possess a High School diploma with an Associate's Degree.
  • Have no felony convictions, misdemeanor convictions will be considered on a case by case basis.
  • No history of criminal or improper conduct.
  • Possess a valid Michigan driver's license.
  • Be Michigan Commission on Law Enforcement Standards (MCOLES) licensed.
  • Be of good moral character.
